Darien, established in 1820 and located along the coast of Long Island Sound on "Connecticut's Panhandle", is an affluent residential community. With little or no industry in town and easy access Interstate 95 and two railroad stations many residents commute to Stamford and New York City. Two area attractions are Cherry Lawn Park and Darien Summer Nights. Cherry Lawn Park is a 27.5 acres park perfect for families. There are tennis and basketball courts, a multi-use field named Casey Field, walking trails, playground area, a gazebo and is also home to the Darien Nature Center.

Darien Summer Nights are located downtown at Grove Plaza. During Friday nights in the summer bands and musicians perform. Fairfield, established in 1639, is a thriving, charming, family oriented coastal New England town. The town has five beaches, numerous parks and ball fields, golf courses, restaurants, shopping and other activities. Fairfield has a highly rated school system consisting of public, catholic and private schools. Both Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University are located in town. With easy access to the Merritt Parkway and I-95 along with (3) train stations makes it an easy commute to New York City.

 

Two area attractions are the Regina A Quick Center for the Arts and the Connecticut Audubon Society.  The Quick Center Center is located at Fairfield University. It's schedule of events offers something for everyone. Popular and classical music, dance, theater, programs for young adults and a lecture series.

The Connecticut Audubon Society is a nature center and wildlife sanctuary located in the Greenfield Hills area. There are hiking trails, classroom activities and summer camps.

New Canaan, established in 1731, is the only town on “Connecticut's Panhandle”that does not border the coast of Long Island Sound. New Canaan is an affluent town with charming sophisticated ambiance featuring a picturesque downtown with many fine restaurants, boutiques, antique stores and a movie theater. Located close to both Stamford and New York City combined with many of its residents commuting, New Canaan has its own branch of the Metro North Railroad. In the 1940s New Canaan became an important center of architecture when a group of architects called the “Harvard Five” designed “modern” homes with new materials, such as glass and open floor plans. However, many of these homes are being knocked down and replaced with traditional new construction. New Canaan also has a first rate high performing school system of both public and private schools and a wide variety of recreational activities for residents to enjoy.

Two area attractions are the Roger Sherman Inn and Waveny Park. The Roger Sherman Inn is a historical inn dating back to the 1700s and is one of Connecticut's oldest historical landmarks. Elegant and graceful renovations have updated the Inn while keeping the historic charm. There is a fine dining French restaurant featuring live entertainment and banquet halls for events.

The Waveny Park was established in 1912 and features hiking and cross-country skiing trails, soccer, softball and baseball fields, paddle tennis courts, a town pool and much more. It is also home to the Waveny House, a large tudor mansion built in 1912, popular for weddings, receptions and other social events and activities.

Trumbull, CT

Trumbull was founded in 1797 and is named after Jonathan Trumbull who was governor of Connecticut during the Revolutionary War. Trumbull combines a small town New England feel with an abundance of retail and commercial activity due to its easy access to Routes 8 and 25, I-95 and the historic Merritt Parkway. The Westfield Trumbull Mall, the Hawley Lane Mall and offices for Unilever and United Health Care are located here. In 1989, Trumbull's Little League Team won the Little League World Series.

Families are drawn to Trumbull by their excellent school system made up of public, catholic and private schools and a myriad of public parks and outdoor activities.

Two area attractions are Indian Ledge Park and Tashua Recreation Area. Indian Ledge Park consists of over 100 acres and includes a BMX racing track, softball, lacrosse and soccer fields, an outdoor theater and much more. Trumbull's summer concert series are held here.

The Tashua Recreation Area offers both a 18 and 9 hole public golf course, swimming pools, tennis and basketball courts and a playground.

Easton, CT

Present day Easton was founded in 1845 and is one of Fairfield County's most bucolic and rural towns. The town has maintained its charm and peaceful setting by limiting its commercial development. Today there are only a few places in town that sell items to the public. Helen Keller spent her final days living in Easton and the middle school is named in her honor.

Two area attractions are Silverman's Farm and Maple Row Farm. The Silverman family has operated its farm, orchards and store since the 1920s. The farm offers apple picking, pumpkins, a country store and a petting zoo.

For over 200 years the Edwards Family has operated Maple Row Farm. In addition to their signature cut your own or precut Christmas Trees, the farm also offers firewood, mulch and other landscaping supplies.

Monroe, CT

Monroe was founded in 1823 and is named after President James Monroe. Originally an exclusive farming community. Due to aggressive growth and development Monroe is now a suburban community attracting people commuting to Danbury, Stamford and New York City. Monroe also has a strong appeal to families due to their excellent public school system and plenty of outdoor activities.

Two area attractions are Wolfe Park and Great Hollow Lake. Wolfe Park offers a pool, tennis and basketball courts, baseball diamonds, a football field and a truly unique wooden playground!

Norwalk, CT

Norwalk, established in 1651 and located on Long Island Sound, is a suburban New England City, part of the New York Metropolitan Area and Connecticut's 6th largest city. For easy commuting, Norwalk has four Metro North railroad stations, three on the main line and one on the Danbury Branch, and access to I-95, the Merritt Parkway and Route 7. Norwalk is a diverse community with many different neighborhoods each offering their own charming characteristics including historic places, metropolitan and waterfront areas and a downtown. In addition to a diversified educational system, residents enjoy a wide variety of experiences from beaches and parks to shopping and dining as well as cultural and historical sites. Norwalk is also home to the Norwalk Community College for higher learning.

Two area attractions are the Maritime Aquarium and the Sheffield Island and Lighthouse. The Maritime Aquarium opened in 1988 and is located in South Norwalk which is also known as “SONO”. The Aquarium features animals from Long Island Sound, an IMAX theater with a six-story screen, educational programs, summer camps, sleep overs for scouts and various boat trips. Visitors enjoy the seal, jellyfish and tiger shark exhibits as well as special exhibits that come through and many more.

From May through September visitors can take a ferry to the Island and tour the 147 year old lighthouse which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A great way to spend a summer afternoon the Island also offers nature trails, the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge, a beach, picnic areas as well as great views of the city and the harbor.

Westport, CT

Westport, located on Long Island Sound incorporated in 1835, is a thriving community offering a vibrant downtown with unique shopping & great restaurants, a highly rated public school system, numerous public parks & beaches as well as cultural experiences. Westport has maintained its small town New England charm, but its close proximity to New York City also allows residents to experience all that city life has to offer.

Two area attractions are the Westport Country Playhouse and Sherwood Island State Park. The Westport County Playhouse, founded in 1931, is a non-profit professional theater known for its excellent performances. The theater has produced more than 700 plays, some of which ended up on Broadway, with hundreds of actors and actresses passing through its doors and performing on its stage.

Sherwood Island State Park located along Long Island Sound occupies 234 acres of woodlands, wetlands and beach. It is a perfect place to walk, bike, swim, fish, hike and bird watch. There is also a nature center which offers activities and programs. The 9/11 Memorial, dedicated in 2002, is placed at Sherwood Point because on a clear day the New York City skyline is visible.
